The new GOP-controlled House passed a bill to protect infants born alive after failed abortion attempts. Every Republican voted in favor of the bill, while 210 Democrats voted against it.

There is a law on the books that makes it illegal for doctors to actively kill a baby born after a failed abortion. But that law does not prevent the doctor from leaving the living baby to die on its own without medical care. That is what this bill aims to address.

The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act was passed by a vote of 220-210.

Here’s what it would do:

Requires healthcare providers to provide care to infants born after botched abortions.

Enacts penalties [up to 5 years in jail] on healthcare providers who don’t “preserve the life and health of the child.”

If they are found to have “intentionally” killed the baby, they could face murder charges.

The demons: 210 Democrats voted against this bill.

That’s every single Democrat except Texas Rep. Henry Cuellar.

Democrat Rep. Judy Chu said:

“Republicans are using the ‘born alive’ inflammatory title to try to chip away at a woman’s right to make a decision about her own body.”

…I guess Ms. Chu believes leaving babies to die on a cold metal surgical table is “a woman’s right” to choose.

The problem is that this bill probably won’t even be brought to a vote in the Senate, and if it was, there aren’t enough votes for it to pass. So this inhumane practice will continue.

What this bill did accomplish is it forced Democrats to put their names on record for all the world [more specifically their voters] to see.
