The last of the city’s street pay phones was disconnected, uprooted and lifted into obscurity, with a handful of city officials looking on.
From roughly 8,000 to zero, the last pay phone will find its next home at the Museum of the City of New York.
It’s the end of an era: New York City removed its last public payphone on Monday. The boxy enclosures were once an iconic symbol across the city.
RIP, New York City’s public pay phones.
