UNITED STATES CORPORATIONS CONTINUE TO FLIRT WITH CHINA
Despite the growing tension between the United States and China, some American corporations are planning to expand their presence in the communist nation. A reminder of how corporations will proclaim their solidarity with gays or blacks yet sell to countries that are racist and homophobic.
As China re-opens after three years of its “zero-Covid’ policies, U.S. companies are looking to cash in:
McDonald’s and Starbucks are opening hundreds of new restaurants this year.
Ralph Lauren and Tapestry (Coach and Kate Spade) are launching new stores.
Tyson and Hormel are opening new production facilities.
Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz said: “I remain more confident than ever that we are still only in the early chapters of our growth story in China.”
The geopolitical tensions between the U.S. and China cannot be understated. Remember, that China flew a surveillance balloon across the continental U.S. And since the outset of the Ukraine war, China and Russia allied together both militarily and economically.
Breitbart summarized the issue well, saying: “The corporations’ expansion in China comes with hardly any legislative pushback from lawmakers in Washington, DC, and President Joe Biden’s administration even as the communist country has worked to gut America’s working and middle class through job-killing free trade that has translated to economic dominance for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).”
