TRUMP IS RUNNING

After months of speculation, former President Trump officially launched his 2024 campaign to retake the White House, setting up a potential rematch with Joe Biden.

The details: Trump made the announcement from his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, just shortly after filing the official paperwork with the Federal Election Commission.

Trump told the crowd:

“Ladies and gentlemen, distinguished guests and my fellow citizens, America’s comeback starts right now… In order to make America great and glorious again I am tonight announcing my candidacy for president of the United States.”

Back up: In U.S. history, only one former president has won re-election after being voted out of office – Grover Cleveland – who was both the 22nd and 24th President of the United States.

The tone of the speech was moderate, focusing on policy over pomp and circumstance. It was clear that he didn’t want to approach this like a campaign rally. Instead, he focused on how Joe Biden is steering the country off a cliff and how he intends to “save America.”

Strategy: Launching this early in the campaign season is meant to send a message to all Republican challengers to get out of his way. Which brings us to…

The elephant in the room is Ron DeSantis. Even the staunchest Trump supporter sees the growing popularity of the 44-year-old Florida Governor who has run his state like a conservative utopia. And while DeSantis hasn’t shared any intentions to run, there is a growing portion of the Republican party that wants him to run.

The road to 2024 has officially begun.
