The Sound of Freedom rings and the left seethes
The Sound of Freedom, a film that puts a spotlight on the often-overlooked real-world sickness of child sex trafficking, is expected to have topped $40 million in total ticket sales after its first weekend, making it a huge underdog success. Meanwhile, several left-wing media outlets spent the weekend writing hit pieces about it.
The Sound of Freedom is based on the true story of Tim Ballard, who left his job at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, just months before earning his pension, to go undercover and rescue children from sex traffickers. Ballard is played by Jim Caviezel, who starred in 2004’s The Passion of the Christ.
The film’s success: It debuted on July 4 alongside the new Indiana Jones movie. By the end of the night, The Sound of Freedom brought in $14.2 million versus Idny’s $11 million. In its first full week, the film topped $40 million in ticket sales.
Movie rating site, Rotten Tomatoes gave it high marks:
professional movie critics rated it 77%
audiences rated it 100%
The haters in the left-wing media did not share the passion for the film. Here’s what their coverage looked like:
📰 Rolling Stone: The QAnon-tinged thriller about child trafficking is designed to appeal to the conscience of a conspiracy-addled boomer.
📰 The Guardian: Sound of Freedom: the QAnon-adjacent thriller seducing America
📰 The Washington Post: Sound of Freedom,” the low-budget film about child sex trafficking almost topped the box office on July 4. But its star, Jim Caviezel, has linked it to the QAnon movement.
The film isn’t political. It isn’t religious. It isn’t conspiratorial. Yet the sole focus of these news outlets was to associate the film with the QAnon conspiracy. But the only common thread is a focus on child sex trafficking.
Child sex trafficking isn’t a conspiracy theory. According to the International Labour Organization, more than 1 million children are exploited each year in the commercial sex trade.
