THE FIST BUMP HEARD AROUND THE WORLD
“We were going to in fact make [Saudi Arabia] pay the price, and make them in fact the pariah that they are.”
-Joe Biden, November 20, 2019
Joe Biden’s traveled to Saudi Arabia over the weekend for a controversial meeting with crown prince Mohammed bin Salman [MBS] whom he vowed to make a “pariah” during the 2020 campaign.
The trip has been panned by both Democrats and Republicans as a public relations failure for the United States.
Why was Biden in Saudi Arabia? Gas prices. Biden [and Dems by association] are being killed in the polls due to record-high gas prices. So Biden traveled across the world to beg MBS to increase oil production, in an attempt to bring gas prices down.
Back up: As I mentioned at the top, during the 2020 campaign, Joe Biden vowed to make Saudi Arabia a “pariah state” due to the killing of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018. According to the CIA, MBS ordered the killing.
Which is why the first bump was so controversial…
The fist bump: Upon his arrival, Biden greeted MBS with a first bump. The Biden regime thought that a fist bump would be less controversial than a handshake. But within hours, Saudi Arabian media was using the clip as propaganda to rehab MBS’ image on the global stage.
Democrat Rep. Adam Schiff broke ranks with Biden, tweeting:
“If we ever needed a visual reminder of the continuing grip oil-rich autocrats have on U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East, we got it today. One fist bump is worth a thousand words.”
Mr. Tough Guy: After his trip, Biden told the media that when the cameras weren’t rolling, he confronted MBS about the killing of Jamal Khashoggi. The Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister later refuted Biden’s claim, saying he never heard him confront MBS…
Was it worth it? Bad optics aside… Did Biden accomplish his goal of getting Saudi Arabia to increase oil production?
No.
There was zero commitment made and Biden traveled home with nothing to tout except saying, “I expect we’ll see further steps in the coming weeks.”
Here’s an idea: Instead of begging on hands and knees and making the United States look pathetic on the world stage… Why not just incentivize and empower U.S. oil production?
