Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun had some sour grapes yesterday, saying he is not a fan of the deal made by former President Trump to produce two new Air Force One planes. Calhoun says the company has lost $1.1 billion on the deal, partly due to rising costs of materials.
Back up: In 2018, Trump negotiated hard with Boeing to get the cost, which he called “ridiculous,” down. Boeing wanted to charge over $5 billion dollars. Trump tweeted in response:
“Boeing is building a brand new 747 Air Force One for future presidents, but costs are out of control… Cancel order!”’
In the end, Trump got Boeing to sign a deal for $3.9 billion – saving taxpayers roughly $1.4 billion dollars.
…that’s what you call ‘The Art of the Deal’.
Wasn’t it nice to have a President that cared about where and how the federal government spent taxpayer dollars?
