SOMEONE ORDERED SCRAMBLED EGGS WE GOT BURNT ONES INSTEAD
The third-largest egg farm in the United States went up in flames, as U.S. egg prices sit at record highs.
The fire took place on a Saturday afternoon, in a two-story, 40,000-square-foot chicken coop in Bozrah, Connecticut.
It took 21 fire departments to put out the blaze, which was so huge it could be seen from miles away.
There’s no word yet on how the fire started.
The unofficial number of chickens killed was set at roughly 100,000.
Egg prices are already at record highs. In December 2022 the average price of a dozen large Grade A eggs in U.S. cities has risen 137%, going from $1.79 to $4.25.
This year alone, almost 60 million chickens have been affected by the worst outbreak of avian flu on record.
On top of that, this wasn’t the first bird blaze over the past year.
In December 2022 a fire killed 250,000 chickens in Pennsylvania.
And in October 2022, another 7,000 were killed in a South Carolina blaze.
It’s unclear how this will affect egg prices.
