Record-high border crossings in December 2022
More than a quarter-million illegal immigrants were encountered at the southern border in December 2022, the highest number ever for single-month apprehensions on record.
December’s numbers beat out the previous record of 241,136, which also occurred under Biden’s watch in May 2022.
In the fiscal year 2022, Biden set another record for most encounters in a single year with 2.4 million.
The new numbers: The official December 2022 number was 251,487. And remember that these are just the people that Customs and Border Protection caught. It doesn’t account for the gotaways.
This is unusual, given that more illegals usually make the journey to the U.S. during the warmer months and avoid cold winter weather.
It’s worth noting that over the past three months, 66.7% were single adults.
Terrorists: So far in the fiscal year 2023, there have been 38 people on the terror watchlist nabbed at the border, putting us on pace to top 150 this year. It follows a trend that has skyrocketed under Biden:
2022: 98 terrorists
2021: 15 terrorists
2020: 2 terrorists
2019: 0 terrorists
2018: 6 terrorists
2017: 2 terrorists
What do Americans think?
63% of Americans disapprove of Biden’s handling of immigration, while just 37% approve according to a recent poll from Harvard/Harris.
Big picture: Republicans have floated the idea of using their new House majority to impeach Biden’s Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas. I think that’s a good start, but would take it a step further and impeach Joe Biden for dereliction of duty to secure the American homeland [among other things].
