JUDGE ACQUITS JANUARY 6 DEFENDANT

A federal judge has acquitted a January 6 defendant, Matthew Martin, on all charges, ruling that it was reasonable that the defendant “believed” he was being allowed into the Capitol building by Capitol Police officers.

Back up: Martin was initially arrested in April 2021 and charged with a laundry list of crimes:

entering and remaining in a restricted building
disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building
violent entry and disorderly conduct in a Capitol building
parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building.

How it went down: Martin told the judge that he was “let in” to the building by two Capitol Police officers, waving him through the doorway.
Judge Trevor McFadden ruled that it was “plausible.”

The judge also noted that Martin’s involvement in the chaos of the day was “minimal and not serious.”

Video evidence showed Martin quietly walking around the Capitol in an orderly way and was not participating in any violence or vandalism.

Martin told a reporter: “I am very thankful for the judge’s verdict and I’m hoping that I can my life back, I can get my job back,”

The big picture: This blows up the Department of Justice’s plan to charge hundreds of people for simply walking on the Capitol grounds or simply entering the building through open doors.

My thoughts: Folks who committed acts of violence on J6 should be punished appropriately. But most people awaiting their day in court are like Matthew Martin. Many people have been held, uncharged, for over a year. They’re essentially political prisoners being held by the Biden regime.
