Is it Finally Impeachment Season
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy raised the possibility of impeaching Attorney General Merrick Garland following whistleblower claims that the AG intervened in a criminal investigation to shield Hunter and the rest of the Biden family from prosecution.
Whistleblowers have recently come forward to allege that Garland repeatedly denied requests from U.S. Attorney David Weiss to bring indictments for federal financial crimes.
Speaker McCarthy took to Twitter to emphasize the need for accountability, saying: “If the whistleblowers’ allegations are true, this will be a significant part of a larger impeachment inquiry into Merrick Garland’s weaponization of DOJ.”
What is Garland saying? He denies the allegations against him and says Weiss was given full authority to bring any charges he chose.
What happens next? House Republicans want Weiss to testify before Congress to respond to the whistleblower allegations that he was hamstrung by Merrick Garland. If he corroborates those claims, McCarthy says impeachment proceedings will begin against Garland by July 6.
Could Biden be impeached too? Rep. Jim Jordan, who chairs the powerful House Judiciary Committee, suggested there could be an impeachment in the future for Joe Biden himself. Jordan told Fox News:
“We’re driven by the facts and the Constitution. If the facts show there were high crimes, misdemeanors, bribery, treason, whatever—if the facts show there’s a crime there that warrants impeachment, our duty compels us,” Jordan said. “But first we have to first get all the facts on the table.”
