Simone Biles and dozens more U.S. Olympic gymnasts who were sexually abused by Larry Nassar are looking for accountability from the FBI for failing to stop the doctor when the agency first learned about his predatory behavior in 2015. They are suing the FBI for $1 billion dollars.

The details: The complaint filed by the gymnasts claims FBI dereliction led to “Nassar sexually assaulting approximately 100 young women and children between July 28, 2015, and September 12, 2016, and conspired with the highest-ranking officials within the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee and USA Gymnastics, Inc. to conceal this known sexual abuse from foreseeable victims.”

Back up: Larry Nassar is the convicted serial child molester who used his position as a physician for Team USA gymnastics team to sexually assault dozens of athletes including Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, and McKayla Maroney.

Samantha Roy, and former University of Michigan gymnast, said:

“If the FBI had simply done its job, Nassar would have been stopped before he ever had the chance to abuse hundreds of girls, including me.”

At a Senate hearing last September, FBI Director Christopher Wray said:

“I’m especially sorry that there were people at the FBI who had their own chance to stop this monster back in 2015 and failed. And that’s inexcusable.”

At that same hearing, Simone Biles said an “entire system” enabled the abuse.
