Global Cyberattack Hits U.S. Government Agencies
The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency has confirmed a massive global cyberattack has exploited software vulnerabilities and affected several government agencies.
CISA is currently “Providing support to several federal agencies that have experienced intrusions affecting their MOVEit applications,” Assistant Director for Cybersecurity Eric Goldstein told CNN. MOVEit is a popular file transfer software.
It remains unclear exactly which agencies have been affected, though CISA was confident that the attacks would not have a substantial adverse impact on any of the government agencies.
The development is the latest in a string of hacks exploiting software vulnerabilities recently.
While Russian hacking group CLOP claimed responsibility for some of the earlier operations, it remains unclear exactly who perpetrated the latest round.
CLOP, according to CNN, insists it has no interest in government data.
The outlet viewed the group’s extortion site, which informs governments that they deleted any data relevant to their operations and only sought to pursue their ransomware operations.
