A well-deserved mutiny is brewing among Senate Republicans who are signaling it’s time to ditch Mitch McConnell as the GOP’s Senate leader.

Back up: Leadership elections for the GOP are scheduled to take place.

The push to delay: Senators Ron Johnson, Mike Lee, and Rick Scott circulated a letter seeking to postpone the vote due to their poor performance in key Senate midterm races.

In it they say:

“We are all disappointed that a Red Wave failed to materialize… We need to have serious discussions within our conference as to why and what we can do to improve our chances in 2024.”

Senators Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Josh Hawley, Cynthia Lummis, and Eric Schmitt were not on the letter, but also want to delay the election.

Delay rejected: Mitch McConnell’s ally, and Senate Republican Conference Chair John Barrasso, shut down the request, saying he supports a “robust” discussion but that the election would move forward as planned.

Why should we get rid of McConnell?

The 80-year-old has been in the Senate since 1985.

He’s been the GOP leader since 2006. All that time has corrupted him. He’s more focused on keeping power than advancing conservative policies.

For example…

During the 2022 midterms, McConnell refused to use the Senate Leadership Fund to give campaign funding to GOP Senate candidates if they wouldn’t pledge to vote for him as Leader.

McConnell pulled funding from Blake Masters in Arizona and Don Bolduc’s Senate race in New Hampshire.

We may have had the Senate majority if he didn’t selfishly withhold that money.

Meanwhile, McConnell dumped millions into the Alaska Senate race to help RINO Lisa Murkowski in her race against MAGA Republican Kelly Kelly Tshibaka. [Race is still undecided]

Big picture: A new poll found that McConnell has a record-low 7% approval rating among all voters and just an 18% approval rating among Republicans.

What happens next? Republican Senators will meet for lunch tomorrow ahead of the Wednesday vote. So we should have a clearer picture then.
