CHEMICAL SPILL IN OHIO GETS WORSE
The Biden regime downplayed the train derailment in Ohio and the subsequent decision to release and burn dangerous chemicals into the air and waterways.
Here’s a thought:
If everything’s safe, I’d like to see Joe Biden prove it by visiting the area. Breathe the air and drink the water.
Then I’ll believe it.
Hazardous chemicals were detected in the Ohio River, potentially affecting millions of Americans, leading to seven states monitoring their water supplies.
Earlier in Feb 2024, a 150-car Norfolk Southern freight train carrying an estimated 1 million pounds of hazardous materials derailed in East Palestine, Ohio.
The government decided the best way to deal with the environmental disaster was to do a ‘controlled’ burn of the chemical-filled rail cars.
Since then, there have been anecdotal examples of fish, chickens, foxes, coyotes, and birds turning up dead.
According to a memo sent by the Environmental Protection Agency:
“Materials released during the incident were observed and detected in samples from Sulphur Run, Leslie Run, Bull Creek, North Fork Little Beaver Creek, Little Beaver Creek, and the Ohio River.”
“Materials related to the incident were observed entering storm drains.”
A local NBC affiliate in Ohio confirmed “Low levels of dangerous chemicals from the ones released in the derailment were detected in the Ohio River downstream of the incident.”
Who’s affected? The Ohio River supplies public drinking water to over 5 million Americans – including Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, [and to a lesser extent] Illinois, Tennessee, and Mississippi.
If you project out to the entire Ohio River Basin, which includes the river plus its tributaries, you’re talking about 25 million people.
What the EPA is saying: Despite admitting they found chemicals in the water, they claim they are not at “levels of concern.”
The EPA has released a list of the toxic chemicals that were found in the air, soil, and water surrounding the crash site:
Vinyl chloride, Butyl acrylate, Athylhexyl acrylate, Ethylene glycol monobutyl
According to the National Cancer Institute, Vinyl chloride is a carcinogen linked to liver cancer, lymphoma, leukemia, and other cancers
Related: It was determined that a mechanical issue with an axle on one of the cars caused the derailment. Security footage from 20 miles away from the crash site showed sparks and flames under one of the cars as it made its way toward its eventual crash site.
Whether the chemicals travel through the Ohio River Basin or through the air [via the ‘controlled’ burns], this has the potential to cause widespread human and ecological damage. And the scary part is, it could be years before we know the true effects.
Oh and did the mention the mayor had the press arrested on site for reporting on this disaster.. constitutional rights be damned…
