Democrats and Republican leaders in Congress are about the blow out the budget. It appears they’ve come to an agreement on a 2,700-page, $1.5 trillion dollar 2022 federal budget [that is already about 6 months late] that will fund the government through September.

Non-defense spending would increase 7% to $730 billion
Defense spending would increase 6% to $782 billion

Back up: Last month inflation rose by 7.5% – that’s the highest jump in prices since 1982, forty years ago. Usually, that’s a sign that we need to reign in spending. Not raise spending by 6-7%.

This bill also appropriates $14 billion for emergency funding towards Ukraine [as I mentioned in the First Word]. Congress is using the urgency of the situation in Ukraine to try and rush through this 2,700-page budget that was just released today.

Mitch McConnell expressed urgency: “It needs to be passed and it needs to be passed quickly.”

Rep. Paul Gosar responded to McConnell on Twitter, warning:

A giant red flag: “it must be done quickly” means it’s an awful bill and it should never pass. Good bills can be discussed. Bad bills “must pass quickly”

The House passed the blowout spending bill. The next step is the Senate, before heading to Biden for his signature.
