Big win for Free Speech as Judge Orders Biden Administration to Limit Contact with Social Media Platforms
A federal judge has ordered the Biden regime to immediately stop working with social media companies to censor American citizens.
Louisiana Federal Judge Terry Doughty ruled that the Biden regime may have violated the First Amendment and issued a preliminary injunction barring any federal official from contacting social media companies to discuss censoring Americans’ protected speech.
This lawsuit was brought by Republican Attorney Generals in Louisiana and Missouri who claimed the Biden regime coerced or “significantly encouraged” tech companies to suppress free speech.
An injunction is not the same as a final ruling. Injunctions are issued to prevent a specific behavior while a case is being ruled on. In this case, Judge Doughty found that the state AGs were “likely to succeed” in their lawsuit and found it appropriate to issue this injunction.
What the judge said: Judge Doughty has been [rightly] praised for the language in his injunction. Here are some of the best excerpts:
“Opposition to COVID-19 vaccines; opposition to COVID-19 masking and lockdowns; opposition to the lab-leak theory of COVID-19; opposition to the validity of the 2020 election; opposition to President Biden’s policies; statements that the Hunter Biden laptop story was true; and opposition to policies of the government officials in power. All were suppressed. It is quite telling that each example or category of suppressed speech was conservative in nature.”
“This targeted suppression of conservative ideas is a perfect example of viewpoint discrimination of political speech. American citizens have the right to engage in free debate about the significant issues affecting the country.”
“The United States Government seems to have assumed a role similar to an Orwellian ‘Ministry of Truth’… the present case arguably involves the most massive attack against free speech in United States’ history.”
What happens next? The Biden regime announced it plans to appeal this ruling.
