A DIGITAL BILL OF RIGHTS IS NEEDED FOR ALL

President Donald Trump announced a Digital Bill of Rights as part of his 2024 presidential campaign platform.
What’s in Trump’s Digital Bill of Rights?
On December 15, 2022, Trump released a 6+ minute video outlining his proposal to “dismantle the censorship cartel”:
Ban the federal government from colluding with private companies to censor Americans’ lawful speech
Rights for social media users to be informed if and why they are being shadowbanned, throttled, or censored. Plus a right to appeal.
Enforce digital due process, where government officials would need a court order before telling big tech to censor your social media posts.
Require big tech to increase their efforts to remove child exploitation content.
Identify and fire every federal bureaucrat who has engaged in domestic censorship
Order the Department of Justice to investigate and prosecute all instances of digital censorship.
Ask Congress to revise the immunity protection given to Big Tech under section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.
Immediately stop funding all non-profits and academic programs that support online censorship under the guise of “dis and misinformation”
Create new laws to prosecute federal bureaucrats who collude with private companies to do the bidding of the government.
Mandate that intelligence officials cannot work for big tech for 7 years after they’ve left the government.
Other items have been put on the table by other politicians these are:
The right to have private, in-person conversations without big tech surveillance
The right to participate in online platforms without unfair censorship
The right to know how internet search engines manipulate search results
The right to control personal data
The right to protect children from online harms
Require Google and other search engines to disclose whether they prioritize search results based on political or ideological views.
Ban the use of TikTok and other social media platforms tied to China and other foreign countries of concern on government and public school devices.
Prohibits government employees from coordinating with Big Tech to censor or police speech.
Ultimately We should be happy that Trump and others are putting digital free speech at the forefront of their platforms and campaigns.
