⏰ 2024 IS ON THE LINE IN WISCONSIN
All eyes on Wisconsin
Wisconsin voters headed to the polls to vote for their next state Supreme Court Justice, in a race that will decide whether the court has a liberal or conservative majority.
The court currently has a 4-3 conservative majority. But one conservative judge is retiring. The race to replace him is between conservative former Justice Daniel Kelly and liberal judge Janet Protasiewicz.
Millions of dollars have been dumped into this election because it will have a huge impact on several key issues.
Two big ones are:
🤰Abortion laws: Abortion was made illegal in Wisconsin after Roe v. Wade was overturned due to a pre-existing law on the books since 1849. Protasiewicz has made abortion a cornerstone of her campaign. If the court turns majority liberal, they will side with a challenge to the law.
🗳️ 2024 election laws: In Wisconsin, drop-boxes are illegal and you are required to present an ID to vote. A liberal court will side with a challenge to both of these laws.
The money: More than $31 million has been dumped into this race, mostly from out-of-state donors. Protasiewicz has taken in millions from George Soros as well as left-wing Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, and LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman.
Protasiewicz is dangerous: She is a well-documented left-wing activist judge. One of the most extreme examples of her immorality was a 2020 case where she gave no jail time to a 25-year-old man who abducted and raped a 15-year-old girl.
Protasiewicz cited the Covid pandemic in her decision against jail time, saying “These are strange times… I’m not going to do that.”
